What is Yoga and what we teach here

Yoga literally means “Union.” The union and harmony of body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is known to have originated in ancient India between 3300- 1900 BCE. It was adopted by many other philosophical schools in India from Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism to others. During Middle Ages (500 – 1500 CE) many other yoga traditions developed in India. And in the mid 19th century Yoga came to the attention of western public. There are yoga styles that focus only on physical exercise, some others focus only on relaxation, and some in between.
The style of yoga that we teach here is Sivananda Yoga. Sivananda Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that was founded in India in 1932 in a region called Rishikesh in the Himalayan region of India. It has a good balance of physical practice and relaxation.
The classes we teach focus on a system that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (yoga breathing exercises) which bring harmony to your body, mind, and spirit.
